Wow I Made It 4 Years With FW Today

Today I celebrate.

Four years ago today I was sat outside a pub on Whitehall having a birthday drink (I share my actual birthday with the birth of the site) and a friend said, why don’t you get a blog so I don’t have to listen to you any more. Four years ago it seemed like a good idea, it was more than that, it was an amazing idea that has taken me on a journey I could never have guessed, allowed me to do things a working class lad from the suburbs shouldn’t and given me more than I could ever repay.

I sit here typing tonight and looking back on something I consider my proudest achievement, this site. It might not be the most popular, it might not be the coolest, it might not be the best but it’s mine, and I have poured my heart and soul into it. It has got me to see the most talented designers, the most gifted garment makers have given their time to talk, and it has made me happy almost every single day.

But it hasn’t just been me, so some thank you’s  . . .

There have been some people who are far too modest to see how they helped, Penny, Chris, Maddy & Sarah. Each of you has been so supportive, encouraging and brilliant. You have urged me on, pushed me to do the things I wanted and been the sounding boards for so many ideas.

Olivia, who is one of my most adored friends I’ve met through this, who has given me ideas, passes, and offered advice on everything from social media to how I can get better.

The guests in the last year, each of you gave time to be in features and pieces, I can’t thank you enough.

The designers, you inspire me, you make me want to do this, and you let me connect with you.

Polly Vernon, my fashion fairy godmother, you appeared on the site when it was brand new, then this year gave me a piece of advice that pushed me on.

We have a thriving independent fashion industry out there, they are the real stars, the people who deserve the attention, I’m so happy to be part of that.

A special mention for Felicities PR, who never turn down a request, and who remain a bench mark of what a good PR should be. When I get my own PR it’ll be them.

and who could complete a list of thank you notes without mentioning Kanye ;-p

Hope the next 4 years are a blast as well.

Alongside writing, I have worked in other industries helping to design & grow digital platforms, develop businesses and support operations practices. This experience has proved invaluable in building an understanding of how businesses work, and the landscape in which retail, B2B commerce and other commercial operations develop. Knowledge of commercial interests has helped shape my fashion industry insights beyond critiquing of garments
