Remember when Boris Johnson said “London is moving East . . . ”
Well Boris should have had a look round before saying that, London is the East, it’s the beating creative heart of the city, it is where people have come for centuries with their hopes and dreams. They come and establish themselves, they find their way.
East London has been the home of artists and garment makers for hundreds of years. In fact just up the road from Harnett & Pope there is the Whitechapel Gallery, famous amongst other reasons for being the starting point for British Pop Art.
And it is Harnett & Pope this post is about, established on Brick Lane, that vibrant, lively, noisy and bustling street. Where everyone is shouting for attention and demanding you look. Well here is a label that you should take notice of, hand crafting its pieces for sale online and via its shop.
For us as you know a sense of identity in a label is very important, and its clear that they have a clear sense of who they are, where their going, and exactly the pattern they need to cut to arrive at that point.
The tailoring is amazing, and when asking round you our readers, and some of our friends, it became clear there were 3 words that ran through all your discussions, Quality, Style, and Unique.
Who wouldn’t want something unique, we all look to find the best things, and want to stand out, lets put down our pretence at modesty, the shy “oh this old thing” & the “oh you always look so much better than me” stuff, we all love fashion, yeah I’m making that assumption if your reading a fashion blog, and we want to look catwalk glam the moment we step out.
One of the things I adore about Harnett & Pope is that every time you step out in one of their pieces you make a statement, your turning the pavement into a runway, their amazing coats are and easy way to move from simply turning up to making an entrance.
They through the clever design and styling allow you to do plenty with each piece, dress up, dress down, go very modern and edgy, or take it back to timeless and classic, you can equally mix the new with the old in building the outfit. In these austere times when we look for the best ways to build wardrobes, the items they make are versatile and work for you.
One final word, as you all know, customer service is always a huge thing for me, and I want to add I have been in their shop many times with friends, and I have to say in terms of polite, friendly, passionate staff they are leaders in their class. I also like that they just don’t want to sell you an item, they want to share their love of the products, and help you style them.
Offering advice on how to create looks, and giving you a glow from their exuberant love of their business is something every Indie could do with making sure of. It’s a back bone for success, you could have the best product in the world but if that customer contact isn’t right then you are not not going to get far.
